Having been out of town this morning, Friday 22 November, I have just picked up the sad news about the Claremont Hotel fire, right next to the pier on Eastbourne seafront. I am relieved to hear there are no reports of any casualties, although I gather some people have had to be taken to hospital with breathing difficulties. Well done to hotel staff and first responders for getting people out and away from danger.

The smoke from the fire is drifting across the town in a roughly NNW direction, although the smell of the fire is much more widespread.

Here in the harbour area the air is fresh and unaffected by the smoke plume. PM2.5 and PM10 levels have remained low all morning, see the PM2.5 graph below.
