Raindrops keep falling on my particulate matter levels

Eastbourne has again enjoyed some nice, low particulate matter levels this week. Floating 24h average readings for PM2.5 have not risen above 8μg/m³ in the last seven days. Floating 24h average PM2.5 levels for the week to 19 October 2019

Reasons may include:

  • the temperature during that period only dropping briefly below 11°C, so central heating systems have not needed to fire up so much.
  • the wind direction has stayed away from northerly or southerly directions, avoiding importing pollution from nearby metropolises.
  • the level of rainfall - over 50mm - that we have experienced in the last week. There have been a few occasions when the PM graph has dipped just as the rain begins. To mangle another song, I can breathe freely now the rain has come.
